What does it take to have a conscious REALationship™?
Defining REALationship
Relationship is defined as:
re·la·tion·ship [ri-ley-shuhn-ship]
-noun
1. a connection, association, or involvement.
2. connection between persons by blood or marriage.
3. an emotional or other connection between people.
4. a sexual involvement; affair.
A REALationship™ focuses the REALity in the relationship.
3 keys to A REALationship™ are:
HUGGING. The Physical nature of a REALationship™.
TALKING. The Mental nature of a REALationship™.
BEING. The Spiritual nature of a REALationship™.
(loving, communicating, living)
HUGGING is the physical nature of a REALationship™. This includes holding hands, looking each other in the eyes, kissing, caressing, and making love. This may seem obvious but too often we overlook and forget to just reach out and touch one another. You have to set time aside for intimacy and physical contact. We get so caught up in the day-to-day of living that we can take our relationship for granite. I suggest putting aside a night for just the two of you at least once a week. Even its just staying at home and watching a movie – just as long as you are doing it together.
TALKING is the mental nature of a REALationship™. Communication is the key to any successful relationship. If you don’t communicate with your partner, how can you expect to know what they are feeling? How could they possibly know what you are feeling if you don’t tell them?
Too often, we find that we are speaking at one another and not with one another.
I suggest taking a daily 10-minutes with each other. On a good day you can tell each other what you appreciate and love about one another. On a not so good day you can discuss what your particular issue, problem, or concern is.
Communicating can alleviate escalating arguments and blow-ups. When you have these daily conversations be totally REAL. And, don’t forget the good days! Don’t just ask for the 10-minutes when you are angry. You don’t want this to become the “Let’s Talk” talk.
BEING is the spiritual nature of a REALationship™. Whatever your spiritual or religious beliefs are, we all still have a need for internal peace in an external and chaotic world. When you are at peace with yourself you will be a better partner. It is important to have your alone time to be YOU. Before we commit to a relationship we have our own lives, friends, hobbies, passions and dreams. Often times, when we fall in love, we forget “ME.” When we are in a REALationship™ we learn how to go from “ME to WE” by not forgetting “ME.” One of the ways to do this is by knowing that your partner is a mirror reflection of you. They are giving you a constant glimpse of who you are and a chance for you to evolve into your Best Self.
